Weekly Journal
On Saturday (in the Australian future) I left for home. After a 38 hour continuation westward, I arrived home. And there's no place like home.
Yesterday I took it easy coming off the jet lag and helped around the house a bit. I did merge some PRs. Ana Lisboa has been doing some contract work for laravelshift.com. Mainly adding capacity while I've been speaking at conferences. Once we're caught up, she'll tackle the refresh of Can I Upgrade Laravel. Hopefully before Laravel 13.
Otherwise, I completed a Human Shift which came in during Laracon AU. I also got some good feedback from attendees after my talk on Blueprint. I actually completed one of their feature requests on the flight home. I'll tag a release later this week.
Weekly Tip
There was kind of a downer Reddit post coming off Laracon AU. Imagine that. I don't want to get too deep, but I would like to summarize my thoughts. Laracon has undeniably changed in recent years. Laracon is bigger. Laravel is bigger. As such, Laracon has grown. Not just in size, but maturity. They are more of an event now. With announcements, reviews, and launches.
This means less of the "themed" or "technical" talks. While I do miss those talks, I've acknowledged my level is much different than most attendees. So I've adjusted my expectations for Laracon. For me, attending is more about the networking and hallway tracks than it is the actual talks.
In the end, like with anything, you get out what you put in. If you come to Laracon quietly sitting in the audience expecting every talk to cater perfectly to you, then yeah, you'll probably be disappointed. But if you come open to listening to diverse talks and willing to interact with your fellow Laravelian, you may find, as I have, Laracon provides one of the best conference experiences.
