Weekly Journal
My PR to convert the framework test suite to Double is still open. I remain hopeful, but it has been sitting for a few weeks now. I may message Taylor to get his take.
Last week I finished up a Human Shift to upgrade a Laravel 5.5 application to Laravel 13. I also helped with their Laravel Cloud migration. I may have another Human Shift in the pipeline to upgrade an old Laravel 5.1 application. I still really enjoy doing these and am way more efficient nowadays with AI.
Along those lines, I launched the landing page redesign of laravelshift.com to reflect Shift's integration with AI. Many users probably don't look at this page. But I think it's important to address Shift's relationship with AI head-on. I still think Shift + AI provides the most automated and thorough upgrade of your legacy application. So the content of the page is geared towards relaying that.
Weekly Tip
Check your Laravel Cloud bills.
In the process of migrating a client to Laravel Cloud, they had the common concern of, "what's the bill going to be?"
Laravel Cloud makes it pretty easy to click buttons and spin up infrastructure. That's awesome. But it does make the cost a bit of a mystery until you get your first bill.
I helped them reduce their bill to $12/month versus the $25 they were paying. Effectively cutting their bill in half. I've also been reviewing the bill for Laravel News to help Eric reduce costs.
I've learned some things along the way. So if you have a bill over $20, I'd be interested to see if these can help you reduce your bill too. Email Shift support.
